am I on vacation?

It's hard to say... I'm taking this German class, which suddenly spiked in difficulty last night when the textbook gave us a passage from Kant's essay "What is Enlightenment?" to translate. It's not that odd that I found Kant harder to translate than little passages about baby bears and their protective mothers, but it did make me realize that the feeling I was starting to get that I actually know how to read German is wrong. I can only read German very slowly and in a somewhat piecemeal fashion.

And I'm officially enrolled in this supervised reading course, although the professor and I haven't met thus far, and the summer session is halfway done as of tomorrow. We are having a lunch meeting, though, which means that right now I'm procrastinating typing up some notes. The problem is that for the past few days all I've been doing in the evenings is playing computer games in my air-conditioned bedroom, actually thinking I'm on vacation. Which I kind of am. But kind of not.

I think I had the same textbook for my German class--I totally remember the baby bears and their mothers. :)

Hope you're actually on vacation soon!

I think it's the only game in town!

And yes, vacation's coming in three more weeks...
