spring is here

At some point in the past few weeks, spring snuck in. We're not having below-freezing temperatures at night and it's generally in the 50's during the day. I'm still tired and having difficulty getting back to work, but it's nice to retire the winter jacket.

It's warm enough here to get and and play in the garden. Two hours pulling weeds, thinning lamb's ears and replanting! Bliss.

And, of course, dirty fingernails. I do love spring.

Hooray for its arrival. I hope it gets to the west soon; I still need my double-layer eiderdown and flannel sheets, and my space heater is still on several times a day.

I think I'd feel differently if I still lived in a house, rather than an apartment building. My building stays very warm inside no matter what, due to the centralized radiator heating. My former house in grad school city, around 120 miles further south, on the other hand, is still chilly and requires several blankets to sleep. So admittedly I'm coming from a comfortable position here. :)

But on the other hand, I wish I had room for a garden (or even a windowsill appropriate for herb boxes)!
