As an undergrad, I was always surprised and a bit alarmed when professors emailed me (or the class in general) over spring break. Didn't they know it was vacation?
Oh, it's the bureaucratic business that I usually email them about: one student just used up his excused absences for the semester and gets a reminder about that; one student hasn't submitted an assignment that was due the Friday before spring break.
But in a more general sense, I'm actually trying to get a lot of class planning/making handouts, etc. done over the break, so I'm never far from my students!

Why would you want to email students over spring break? I'm always busy trying to forget my students!
